Belentepe Farm

Belentepe Natural Living & Permaculture Farm takes its name from the hill it is situated on: Belentepe. The farm is at the southwest outskirts of Uludağ Mountain in Bursa City; overlooking the valley where Nilufer river flows into Doganci Dam which provides drinking water fort he city. Taner and Ece Aksel couple were on a picnic in 1998 when they drove to Belentepe and loved the scenery. They asked a shepherd whether there was any land for sale in the vicinity and the shepherd indicated that the land right there was on sale. They purchased the 1.4 hectare land. The previous owner used to plant wheat. They planted some 100 fruit trees and 500 vines and visited the land occasionally until 2010. In 2010 Taner Aksel takes permaculture design course and in 2011 starts spending most of his time in Belentepe, developing the farm with permaculture principles. The farm has been operational since 2013. The farm generates its own electricity from wind and sun. The buildings have been constructed with natural building principles and materials. No chemicals allowed in the farm – natural fertilizers, natural pest control with permaculture applications. Apart from seasonal fruits and vegetables, the farm makes its own molasses from grapes, its own wine and also cheese. There are also courses and activities on sustainable living and permaculture in the farm. Turkish and English are the spoken languages.
