Gürcan-Filiz Durmazbilek
Gürcan and Filiz Durmazbilek* live on Avşa Island. Tourism and fishing are the main livelihood of the island population. Gürcan's land is special, he grows food on the terraces he has built with his stonemason father years ago, within wild plants, bushes and rabbits, facing the Marmara Sea. He harvests figs, pistachios and olives from the trees planted among the rocks. He sells his produce in the local market. Wind surf is one of the surprises of this island. Gürcan really loves to surf when he finds time, and eager to teach it to volunteers.

*Their daughter is the only one who can speak English (beginner) and she is available at certain times.
