Fadime-Kaplan Zülfikargil

Our farm, 2 km away from Ilıpınar Village, is in the middle of a pine forest and surrounded by olive and pomegranate orchards. Ilıpınar is a former Greek village and is named after the spring still running through the village (pınar means spring in Turkish)

You can arrive in Foça (Phocaea) and Menemen (nearby small cities) using mass transport in 15 minutes and at İzmir (3rd biggest city in Turkey) in 1 hour. Foça Special Environment Protected Area which is home to Mediterranean Monk Seals and Gediz Delta which is one of 14 Ramsar Sites are very special attractions for birds and butterfly watching/photography and for fishing. And there are other alternatives for those who like art, culture and social activities such as İzmir Fair, Kordon (café and bar quarter) and Kemeraltı (old city bazaar).

Fadime and Kaplan Zülfikargil, a retired couple, started living in their farm in Ilıpınar in 1998 after teaching for 25 years. They have been living with their beloved and precious mom and aunties. It is a 5-people family living in a 3 hectare olive orchard. Olive harvest, table olive and olive oil production form the major part of their work in the farm. However, they enjoy producing all kinds of nature friendly products or learning from other producers and trying new stuff. They love to produce grape seed oil, olive oil soap, pickles, vinegar, and fruit and vegetable for their own consumption and to share all they know about the production and harvesting.

The family house is a detached one reflecting traditional Foça architecture. The Zülfikargil Family has reserved two rooms on the second floor for their guests. If you are willing to take part in all kinds of nature friendly production, daily works of the household, know or volunteer learning how to drive a tractor, you are more than welcome to `appreciate` the olive and live together.

The farm is a Turkish and basic-level English speaking environment.
